Lecture Digital audio

Sound Engineering organizes two lectures on the 7th of May. The subjects of these lectures will be digital audio and in particular Audio Codecs and Audio Networking by Christian van Bijleveld and Anton Prins. Both are working at Bosch Security Systems.

Audio Codecs   Christian van Bijleveld

“Nowadays, the use of portable audio players, audio streaming services, mobile applications, etc… put the highest demands on audio codecs. Just to mention a few: high efficiency, high quality, low delay and low complexity. In this lecture the basic concepts of speech and audio coding will be introduced.

Also, since in more and more applications audio is sent via unreliable mediums in which, due to the interactive nature of the application (for instance, a telephone conversation), re-transmission is not allowed, different packet loss concealment techniques will be presented.

Finally, methods for the assessment of audio quality will be discussed.”

Audio Networking   Anton Prins

Why is audio and network technology in this combination a challenge? We are used to use streaming audio/video but when we are setting this to a low latency, it becomes defiant.
